Running

  • Former UTC Lady Mocs standout Anneli Uys Morrison was the overall winner Sunday in the annual Komen Chattanooga Race for the Cure, and despite the crowded field, her time of 18 minutes, 7.57 seconds for the five kilometers wasn't far off her personal best of 17:49. "I've been a female overall winner before but I had never beat all the guys," she said. "It took me a while to get used to running in front with no running with me. In this race it's not really about the run but the cause -- beating cancer -- so it was really fun." The 24-year-old Morrison, who was married on July 22, is assisting UTC coach Bill Gautier this year before returning to her native Australia for physical therapy school. Ryan Shrum had the best men's time of 18:28.12, followed by Tom Sell in 18:42.42, and 21-year-old Marco Bianchini got the men's 19-39 award with his 18.54.70. Brandon Wright, Gina Krabbendam and Brendon McDermott were fifth through seventh in 19:11.77, 19:15.40 and 19:59.87.
