Dairy company executive Scottie Mayfield has conceded the election after his loss to U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann in Thursday’s primary race for the Republican nomination for the 3rd District congressional seat.
Fleischmann gained his party’s nomination in a race with Mayfield, Weston Wamp, son of former 3rd District Congressman Zach Wamp; and businessman Ron Bahalla.
Mayfield called Fleischmann to congratulate him and to concede the election.
Fleischmann will face Dr. Mary Headrick, the Democratic nominee for the congressional seat, in the Nov. 6 general election.
Fleischmann is a first-term congressman.
