Not worth dying for

It's all news this summer. The heat, the heat, the heat. Cities are fighting to keep their shrubbery alive. Gardeners have abandoned their backyards and their tomato plants. Firefighters are busy keeping blazes down.

Somebody in the elevator the other day said he can't wait for a 99-degree day again, just to cool down.

And, just in time for August, kids are going back to football practice.

A teen we know starts practice at 6 this morning. He'll be finished well before noon. Which is how it should be. And not just for footballers. But for all those kids in high school bands who have to learn new shows for the fall. And all those cheerleaders who are practicing for Friday Night Lights. They all need to be finished before noon and then head straight indoors to the A/C.

Used to be, in the olden days, coaches made kids practice in the heat of the day, and withheld water from them, too, just to "toughen up" their teams. A really good practice included somebody throwing up or even passing out. We know better now. Let's hope.

But should there be an old-school coach/sadist out there still withholding water, or handing it out as a reward instead of understanding it's a necessity, or keeping kids on the field as the temperature climbs north of 105 Fahrenheit, we know a newspaper that would love a phone call from a concerned parent.

Extracurricular activities are fun things for the kids. But they aren't worth dying for.

Climate change seems to be getting more brutal by the year. Arguing about causes solves nothing and meanwhile many areas on earth are becoming unlivable. In the US, the Southwest may actually not be able to provide enough water for those who live there. The Mid-west, our breadbasket may be headed for a return to the dust bowl. People are literally dying from the heat all over the country. Many other nations have it as bad or worse.

Decining supplies of food and potable water will translate into death and chaos if the trend continues. Moving toward temporate climates may become a survial tool as climatic and economic conditions force migration.

Remember the old adage, he who panics first, panics best!

Cosmic rays and the sun's magnetic field are behind global warming. There is very compelling evidence that whenever the sun's activity increases it`s magnetic field has a major effect on cosmic rays reaching the earth. As the magnetic field increases few cosmic rays reach the earth, and thus fewer clouds are formed, and thus increased warming. The sun's magnetic field has more than doubled in the last 100 years.

If anyone really believes the reckless habits of 7 billion humans on this earth doesn't have an effect on the environment, which indirectly affects weather, then you probably also believe Bush's trillion dollar invasion of Iraq was justified.

Maybe Joneses is relying on how we had no such measurements, so obviously it didfn 't exist since it wasn't observed.

Well joneses, are you on the cutting edge of human knowledge or are you parked at the end of a lonely dead-end road?

Why do you think worldwide mainstream science has AGW wrong? What do all of these well educated people have to gain by conspiring to reach the same conclusion?

If AGW is indeed fact, we have a chance to reduce the impact we are causing. If we don't act, we may end sustainable life on the planet.

Are you certain enough in your conviction to take that chance when you hold such a distinct minority position?

I do have enough sense to know that man is not powerful enough to influence global warming on the earth and only a fool would believe he can. If man is responsible for global warming on earth then who is responsible for the warming on Mars? I know your answer, George Bush.

Why would I waste your time posting a link? You would not believe anything that did not coincide with your liberal agenda of more government control. Type in "Man Made Global Warming Hoax" and you will find numerous sites and scientist that dispel the man made global warming lie. Do your own research, I have done mine.

joneses,

"I do have enough sense to know that man is not powerful enough to influence global warming on the earth"

And you would still be wrong.

"only a fool would believe he can."

Only a fool woud ignore the facts as you have.

"If man is responsible for global warming on earth then who is responsible for the warming on Mars?"

My answer would be: You're an idiot.

"Type in "Man Made Global Warming Hoax" and you will find numerous sites and scientist that dispel the man made global warming lie."

The vast majority of those sites and scientists have been debunked.

"I have done mine."

No, you haven't. But any research you have done is the epitome of bad research.

Again, you're a fool. A dumbass. A ninnyhammer. A complete moron. No sentient human being should ever, and I mean ever, take you seriously or even listen to what you have to say.

joneses, AGW is not a political issue, it's a science issue, and the scientific case has been building for decades.

If man can pollute a stream or a river or an ocean, why would you not think that man could pollute our atmosphere? Just as man laid waste to Copper Hill, and stripped Haiti of her resourses, man can and is degrading and unbalancing the earth's atmosphere.

The only conservative course is to protect the planet from ourselves. Ignoring our responsibilities is not conservatism.

Man made GLOBAL warming, I repeat man made GLOBAL warming. You must not have got the memo, there is no escape, man has caused GLOBAL warming. If you want to be a kook in good standing you need to get with the program and stay on message.

You're lack of knowledge on the subject of global warming and how it works is astonishing. Why don't you do any research? Do you like being viewed as ignorant?

Well, conservative's showing his true colors.

Not that anybody was in doubt. Wrap himself in the cloak of sanctimony and condemn others.

That's one Christian Way I can live without.

Conservative,

In all seriousness, you're ignorance is off the charts.

Your god isn't real. Therefore, your god isn't "sustaining" the earth or "preventing man from destroying it". There is no observable proof of any deity no matter how much you believe in one. All we physically have is our observable world/cosmos and nothing more.

We have raped the earth. Global warming is real. And you are an idiot.
