Second inmate killed in a week at Georgia's Hays State Prison

A second inmate at Hays State Prison was killed within a week’s time, and another inmate has been charged with murder, authorities said.

Damien McClain was killed during a fight in a prison cell a little after midnight Wednesday, authorities confirm. Today Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Daniel Ferguson and charged him with murder for McClain’s death, said agent James Harris.

GBI agents were inside the maximum security prison today interviewing inmates about McClain and last week’s death of Derrick Stubbs, who family members said was found dead in protective custody.

Georgia Department of Corrections officials have been mum on how Stubbs died.
