Funeral planned Wednesday for 11-year-old shooting victim

Funeral services are set Wednesday for Cassie Culpepper, the Catoosa County girl who was killed in an accidental shooting Friday.

The 11-year-old girl was riding in the back of a pickup truck with family and friends when her brother pointed what he thought was an unloaded .38-caliber revolver at her and pulled the trigger, authorities said

Cassie's mother, Beth Culpepper, who was driving, rushed the child home and called for help, but the girl was dead when authorities arrived, Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood said. The accident happened on Old Ringgold Road at the Whitfield-Catoosa County line.

The investigation is ongoing by the sheriff's office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
