RINGGOLD, Ga. -- A rivalry will resume today at the Ringgold Telephone Company Junior All-Star.
Jordan Daniel and Payton Schanen have played against each other in various tournaments within Georgia and on the Southeaster Junior Golf and Hurricane Junior Golf tours.
They'll be paired again today at WindStone Golf Club with the championship on the line.
"We're good friends, but on the course, I have no friends," said Schanen, who resides in Kennesaw. "It's going down."
Daniel leads the tournament at 3-over-par 143 after shooting a 3-over 70 on Wednesday. Schanen is one stroke back after shooting 71 in the second round.
"I try not to think about the leaderboard," said Daniel, who lives in Newnan, Ga. "I try to find birdies and not think about where I'm standing on the leaderboard."
Daniel shot 71 with a double-bogey on the par-5 ninth. She bounced back with a birdie on No. 13.
"I forgot about the double then I had to grind it out and find a birdie on the back," said Daniel, who finished in 14th place last year.
Jalen Ledger, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., shot a 5-under 65 and leads the boys tournament at 5-under 135. Braden Thornberry is one stroke back, Eric Bae is two back and Terrence Zhang is three shots off the lead.
"I'm hoping that I play well in the final round," said Thornberry who made six birdies, five bogeys and seven pars. "I got off to a really good start then it was up and down."
Chattanooga's Scott Stevens leads the local contingent. He's tied for 23rd at 8 over. Ben Rebne is in 69th place and Oliver Simonsen is in 72nd place. Katherine Holmes is tied for 16th at 19 over.
