Price wins 2 doubles Tennessee Valley Open Championship titles

For the second straight year, Caroline Price left Manker Patten feeling very blue. Yet this time around, she was in much better spirits -- and in much better clothing than her previous attire.

Price, a sophomore at the University of North Carolina, teamed with Oklahoma State's Mary Jeremiah to win the women's doubles title and with University of Tennessee's Hunter Reese to win the mixed doubles title of the Tennessee Valley Open Championships Sunday.

She was the only player to win multiple titles in the open division. Donna McLaurin claimed three titles Sunday, teaming with Louise Schults to win the women's 35 and 45 doubles, and with James Robert to win the mixed 55 doubles title.

Price and Reese changed shirts before their championship match against high school rising senior Sydney Campbell -- a Vanderbilt commitment -- and University of Georgia sophomore Casey Kay, with Price sporting Tennessee orange while Reese rocked a white Tar Heel t-shirt.

"We thought it'd be funny. We're always talking about how the others' colors are ugly," she said. "Clearly, that Tennessee orange isn't as pretty as North Carolina Tar Heel blue, and I'll never do it again, but I did it for Hunter."

Last season, Price -- whose father is former Georgia Tech and NBA star Mark Price -- lost in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles championship matches.

"I played a lot better in doubles this year," Price, who lost in the singles semifinals, said. "After last year, I was fired up to come back and do better, and I was excited because they treat us well here."

Campbell won the singles title, defeating University of Alabama sophomore Emily Zabor 6-2, 6-1, while the men's singles title went to Vanderbilt's Ryan Lipman, who defeated college teammate Gonzales Austin in three sets.

Key teamed with University of Georgia teammate Eric Diaz to win the men's doubles title.
