Brainerd shooting victim ID’d; suspect at large

Chattanooga police have released the name of the man who was shot Friday at the Murphy USA gas station near the Brainerd Road Walmart.

The victim was Leif Plunkett, 33, a clerk at the station. His wounds were not life-threatening, Chattanooga police spokesman Nathan Hartwig said in a news release.

Hartwig said Plunkett left the gas station office around 3:30 and was shot by a black male. The motive was believed to be robbery, but the assailant ran away without taking any money, Hartwig said.

A search by officers and dogs was fruitless, he said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Chattanooga Police Department at 423-698-2525.
