FORT PAYNE, Ala. — Authorities have identified a Georgia man who drowned in Northeast Alabama over the weekend.

Officials at Little River Canyon say 24-year-old Ramirez Austin died while swimming with friends at the national preserve on Sunday, according to The Associated Press. They didn’t give his hometown.

Austin reportedly was attempting to swim across Little River when friends saw him go under. He never resurfaced.

Searchers recovered the man’s body less than three hours after rangers were notified what had happened.
