A 20-year-old father in Calhoun, Ga., has been charged with felony murder and cruelty to children after his 3-month-old daughter died Saturday, authorities say.
Officers responded to a report of a child in distress about 2 p.m. at the home of Billy Jones, Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston said Tuesday.
Jones' daughter was taken to Gordon Hospital where she died, Ralston said, but during treatment medical personnel noticed suspicious injuries on the girl's body.
After investigating the injuries and searching Jones' home, police arrested and charged him in connection with the infant's death.
Jones is being held in the Gordon County Jail. Ralston said no other arrests are expected.
Under Georgia law, felony murder is roughly the same as second-degree murder, indicating no premeditation.
