Teen says she was raped in bathroom of East Ridge Middle

A 13-year-old girl told East Ridge police she was raped in the girls’ bathroom at East Ridge Middle School Thursday afternoon by another teen.

Investigators interviewed the girl at Parkridge East Hospital, where she told them a male about 15 years old sexually assaulted her in the bathroom between noon and 12:30 p.m., said police spokesman Officer Erik Hopkins.

Hopkins said the girl did not initially tell school staff or police about the event, and police were not called until after the girl had been taken to the hospital that evening.

The girl was taken to the Rape Crisis Center for further evaluation and medical oversight, Hopkins said, and Child Protective Services was also notified of this incident.

Police say the girl described the suspect as a light-skinned black male with close-cut hair, wearing a dark-blue shirt and blue jeans.

It is unclear whether the alleged assailant is a student at the school.

“The girl said she did not recognize him,” said Hopkins.

Investigators are currently working with East Ridge school staff to determine where students were throughout the day.
