Landslide sweeps vehicles off Nepal highway; 4 die

KATMANDU, Nepal — An official in Nepal says a landslide has swept several vehicles off a mountain highway. Four people are confirmed dead and nine others have been reported missing.

Government administrator Purushottam Ghimire says the landslide Sunday night swept away five vehicles traveling on the Mechi highway near Kilbung village in eastern Nepal.

He says eight people have been rescued, four bodies have been pulled out and people remain missing.

Details were still sketchy Monday morning but rescue teams have reached the area.
