The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

Mitt Romney had a plan. I'm sure it looked great on paper and the big money boys gleefully poured millions of dollars into his presidential campaign. Here's the plan: the economy is still bad, voters blame Obama, and Mitt only has to run negative campaign ads to get elected.

That's it. That's why Mitt has no detailed economic policy beyond tax cuts for the rich. That's why he hasn't thought much about foreign policy. That's why he forgot to mention the war in Afghanistan when he accepted the nomination.

To win the republican primary, however, Mitt had to learn how to talk like a rightwing-conservative-evangelical-tea bagger. The results were hilarious.

But catch the speech he gave at the Clinton Global Initiative. It’s night and day. At CGI he was relaxed and articulate. He was in his element. He was giving a presentation. He was making a sales pitch.

That’s the Mitt Romney I expect to show up for the debate Wednesday night. Debates are not about zingers and they are not about moments. You don’t debate your opponent so much as you make your case to the American people.

That being said, he doesn’t just need to get on base. He needs to knock it out of the park. There are three debates. Technically has three chances but if he looks bad in the first debate the GOP will begin to divert money to try hanging onto the House and picking up a Senate seat or two.

Mitt just might end up as a political laughing stock.

Either candidate has a challenge facing them. This is fairly typical of businesses looking to invest. The U.S. economy cannot and will not improve without increased manufacturing work. A nation of service industries providing services primarily to each other cannot grow sufficiently to sustaim itself.

Volkswagen Group of America’s chief said today the U.S. lost an Audi assembly plant this year because it was less competitive than Mexico, which won the $1 billion investment.

Chattanooga had been seen as a serious contender for the Audi factory.

Jonathan Browning, the top U.S. executive for Europe’s biggest carmaker, said in a speech at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., that America “needs to get its house in order” and “restore global confidence in the workings of its political system.”

Browning cited the decision to choose Mexico as an example of the U.S. losing to increasing global competition for foreign direct investment. It doesn’t make sense for an auto company to build a plant in the U.S. if it plans to export vehicles made there, he said.

Harp, Audis are pieces of crap anyway, which is why they don't sell here in the states. After one gets about 50,000 miles on it, they start falling apart. I've never understood why it is that after all these years, Audi cannot design a more dependable car. Every one I have ever encountered had electrical issues, and that's been the case since the 80's.

No great loss.

We have an economic disaster equivalent to a mega-meteor hurling toward earth. If we had a Congress and a President who were willing to put aside partisan politics and form a viable solution for this country, we still have the other dozen or so other countries who are critical to a final solution. Neither Obama nor Romney alone can solve this issue, but it's really not the time to put a presidential trainee in charge.

Blackwater48 noted: “That's why he hasn't thought much about foreign policy.”

And to make matters worse, Romney has recruited a cadre of leftover neocons from the George W. Bush administration to be his foreign policy advisors, and, needless to say, is now parroting the same cocky views that brought us the Iraq debacle. And like George W. Bush, Romney is also gaggling on about the need to cut taxes for the wealthy with no realistic thoughts as to who will be paying for these irresponsible neo-con war policies.

Blackwater48 noted: “That's why he forgot to mention the war in Afghanistan when he accepted the nomination.”

Since many of the men and women fighting that war belong to the 47% that Romney was recently condemning in his fundraising speech for his wealthy donors, I’m not so sure that he just forgot, Blackwater48. Mitt Romney does have an arrogant attitude when it comes to the 47%, and as we all know many of our military families do receive food stamp assistance, especially the new recruits. I recall reading somewhere that the base pay of most recent enlistees is at or below the $23,050 poverty rate for a family of four.

The professional political progrnosticators give President Obama between a 75 and 80 percent chance of being re-elected. Nate Silver, who writes the influential five-thiry-eight blog put it this way. The odds of President Obama winning a bigger victory in the electoral college in 2012 than he did in 2008 are essentially the same as the odds of Romney winning the Presidency.

Hey alpo. You don't seem to mind forcing GM to build the Chevy Volt. GM loses up to $49,000 on every Volt it builds. It costs GM $89,000 to build a car that costs $39,000 to buy (and guess who pays the difference). And the Volt is a much bigger piece of shiznit than any Audi you put in front of it.

You don't give a rats asz about the people that would have a job because of Audi.

Your statement about it not being a big loss is very self centered.

With Tennessee unemployment rate at 8.5%, I'd like to think you would welcome ANY jobs. But hey, as long as YOU'RE doing alright, screw everyone else. Your true colors are just below the surface.

The Republican party, instead of rising to the occasion and trying to address these problems, instead focused on deliberately trying to sabotage almost everything president Obama proposed. We as a party, have been pulled to the extreme far right and are verging on insanity. I hate to admit it but I feel a lot of this was due to this man's race. In negotiation on deficit reduction for example, we started with the absurd position that we would not accept $1 in tax increase for every $10 dollar in spending cuts. At the same time we proposed hundreds of billions of new defense spending to help fatten our already bloated defense department. We propose decimating the education budget, school lunch programs for poor kids, hundreds of billions in Medicaid cuts and turning Medicare into a voucher program. While our policies have resulted in a 'socialism for the rich' redistribution of trillions of dollars in wealth from the middle class to the upper class, we have decided to dismantle the safety net for the new dirt poor, mostly white people that WE have placed into this position. Also we have been fabulously successful in convincing many if not most of the victims of our policies to blame blacks, illegal immigrants, etc. I apologize and ask for forgiveness."

I have no opinion on the Chevrolet Volt. Who's forcing GM to build them? Obama? You do realize that advent of the Chevrolet Volt and that tax credits offered tax payers began while GWB was in office, don't you? Or is this another item that has been shifted over into the Obama basher's column?

You can look it up to verify those two facts for yourself.

"Your statement about it not being a big loss is very self centered."

Is that so? I opined about the quality of the Audi automobile, and nothing else.

Poor Bill O’Reilly. He is one of those people who need to spend less time talking and more thinking, especially when it comes to the subjects of debt, income redistribution, social justice, and what is and is not shortsighted when it comes to our economy.

Clearly, the Ryan/Romney proposal to cut taxes, eliminate the U.S. social safetynets, and bump up military spending so we can export more “democray” abroad is not a very smart plan for anyone who cares about the future of the U.S., and the well-being of its citizenry.

But who knows maybe Bill O’Reilly is like Mitt Romney who has a Swiss Bank account and all those investments in the Cayman Islands so he doesn’t really care if America crumbles within – his safety net will always be there for him and his family.

For Obama and the left, the law is merely a suggestion for what they can do. Can't get something through Congress? Simply issue an executive order. Can't get an appointment through the Senate? Simply "declare" the Senate in recess and appoint away. Act now and let the judges sort it out later.

For the past several weeks, several defense contractors made it clear they would have to send out layoff notices to thousands of workers due to automatic budget cuts set to take affect in January. The cuts are triggered by the debt ceiling "deal" hatched last year. The layoff notices are required under federal law.

Understandably, the Obama Administration was panicked by this. The notices would hit in the last month of his reelection campaign and have a huge impact in the critical swing state of Virginia, home to hoards of defense contractors. What to do? Simple. Ignore the law.

Yesterday, Lockheed Martin, a massive contractor, announced it had reached a "deal" with the White House and would not send out the legally required layoff notices. The Obama Administration had "interpreted" the law and found it would be "inappropriate" to send out the layoff notices.

-------More amazingly, the White House promised to pay any fines or penalties that might be leveled against the company for violating federal law. Read that again.------

-----Yes, the White House just told companies to violate federal law and that, if they get in trouble for it, the government, i.e. taxpayers, will cover their fines.-----

Let's remember, this federal law requiring the lay-off notices, the WARN Act, was passed in 1988 by a veto-proof Democrat Congress. It went into affect without President Reagan's signature. It was an urgent matter for Democrats, until, apparently, they didn't like the consequences of it.

Nothing must interfere with Obama's reelection. Not even federal law.

Pennsylvania judge bans photo-IDs (this time):

“I expected more photo IDs to have been issued by this time,” he wrote. “For this reason, I accept Petitioners’ argument that in the remaining five weeks before the general election, the gap between the photo IDs issued and the estimated need will not be closed.”

The judge also refused to stop election officials from asking for ID cards at the polls. Those without ID can still vote, and they will not have to use provisional ballots. But for voters who aren’t keeping up with the news, merely being asked the question could create unnecessary confusion and fear.

Allowing officials to ask for unneeded ID cards makes little sense, but it fits right in with a law that from the start was based solely on political expediency and not on rational grounds.

Romney Busing Supporters to Ohio

With Alabama expected to vote overwhelmingly for Romney and running mate Paul Ryan on Nov. 6, state GOP officials are paying to send several busloads of Alabama Republicans to the "battleground" states that will decide the election.

Brooks will lead a delegation of more than 70 Huntsville-area Republicans to Dayton, Ohio, from Oct. 24-28.

Republicans in Georgia and South Carolina are also mobilizing to help Romney carry those swing states, but Maloney said he believes Alabama's program is the largest of its type.

While in Dayton, Alabama GOP volunteers will also campaign on behalf of Ohio Congressman Mike Turner and Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Josh Mandel, who is trying to unseat Democatic Sen. Sherrod Brown.

Jim Burden, a Limestone County resident who chairs Romney's campaign in North Alabama's 5th Congressional District, will be among those boarding the bus for Ohio later this month.

"All the news media is saying that without Ohio, we can't win," Burden said this morning. "So we've got to go take Ohio."

U.S. diplomats in Libya repeatedly asked the Obama administration for more security in Benghazi in the run-up to the Sept. 11 attack on the consulate but were "denied these resources," two congressional lawmakers said.

Based on information provided to the committee by individuals with direct knowledge of events in Libya, the attack that claimed the ambassador's life was the latest in a long line of attacks on Western diplomats and officials in Libya in the months leading up to September 11, 2012," they wrote. "In addition, multiple U.S. federal government officials have confirmed to the committee that, prior to the September 11 attack, the U.S. mission in Libya made repeated requests for increased security in Benghazi. The mission in Libya, however, was denied these resources by officials in Washington."

Sorry, Jesse, but you’re wrong about this war and tax issue. George W. Bush was the first U.S. president to take us into a war and cut taxes. His own Secretary of the Treasury, Paul O'Neill, warned him that it was a dumb move, but Bush ignored the warning.

As to FDR, taxes were raised during World II. The tax revenues went from $8.7 billion in 1941 to $45.2 billion in 1945. After the war, the taxes were cut, which is a fairly predictable pattern.

Oh, the poor testy lefties. Always think they are smarter/better. You are living in la la land defending a Pimp with a limp. Your head is buried in a deep stinky place. There is no hope for you. If the big O happens to win, I hope you and yours suffer big time with everyone else. I’m prepared, thank you. Are you?

it is all over. Barack Obama has snagged the endorsement of Venezuelan caudillo Hugo Chavez thereby locking up that key petty Third World totalitarian demographic so eagerly sought after by all Democrats since Jimmy Carter.

BHO: Winner of the coveted Hugo endorsement.

He made his prediction in June saying a "landslide" for Romney, LOL. Please post the Vegas odds makers you are referring to.

Meanwhile here are some recent odds for your perusal...

I would be more impressed with the Vegas prognostications if Romney's checkbook-in-chief wasn't Sheldon Adelson - owner of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

I think you guys ought to have lunch together and talk it out, you know? Find out why you would both be talking about another man getting naked, so excitedly that one of you is using exclamation points. Sorry, but I just don't get it. I have never pictured any man naked. It is, however, a free country and I suppose your predilections are none of my business. At least you're not discussing bestiality. This may help:

The Obama Administration's EPA is being taken to court for human experimentation which intentionally exposes human subjects, including some “more susceptible to the effects of air pollutants and fine particles such as those “produced by car and coal-fired power plants.

The comlaint states the test subject received a consent form that did not explain that he would be exposed to something that the EPA claims to be lethal.

"Ricky, YOU are the ideologue, sir. You're such a partisan hack you are blind to other views. Stop squinting, man, and get off the Obama (blessings upon his name) ether." - J_D

Nothing ideological or partisan about you, is there, JD? You like to pretend to be independent or moderate but you always stand up for the rabid righties on here. If you were truly moderate or a middle-of-the-roader or whatever you wishy-washy undecideds call yourself, you would at least once in a while agree with the left-leaning position. But you ALWAYS speak out vehemently against anything or anyone even remotely liberal. No, I take that back, you never really speak out - you just stand on the sidelines and cheer on your teabagging/libertarian buds and spit out one-liners and pithy bits of unoriginal sarcasm.

If there's anything worse than a partisan hack, it's you people who think you're being objective observers and therefore are the only ones who have a handle on the truth. If I'm "squinting," you're squinting just as much, old dude.

Sounds like Obama has a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ, and that he (wisely) learned to speak the language of American Business. This video shows an Obama I'd like to see more of. His syntax is something championed by Clinton to great success. I have complete faith that progressive African Americans are self assured and confident to the point that they won't mind if I throw down from time to time. Are you feeling me? There is a strength and truth to shedding proper English when an emotional point needs to be made. Ich bin ein brotherman.

"Mt.laural! If you think this all started w/Bush and his tax cuts 10-12 years ago then you are a bigger idjit than i thought! The roots of what we are now in the midst off go all the way back to F.D.R.! It's taken us 60 years to get here and will prob.take us at least that long to get out of this hole!IF EVER!" - jesse

What a load of C-R-A-P! You honestly think FDR's New Deal policies and programs are what put us on the road to ruin?? For over two decades after WW2, while his policies were all in effect and the wealthy paid more in taxes than they've ever paid since, America experienced the greatest level of prosperity it has ever known. The middle class was strong and vibrant and more average people were living the American Dream than at any time before or since.

When Reagan ushered in his insane "trickle down" nonsense and his manic deregulation, that is the time the income disparity began. Instead of more money trickling down, it started gushing upward, middle class wages were stagnating and even started trending downward. When Clinton raised taxes only moderately, he wiped out the deficit and created a surplus. Then Bush the second came along with even more trickle-down nonsense, tax cuts, and unfunded wars, and he instantly turned the surplus he inherited into a deficit. It was only a matter of time before the great recession would take hold.

There is no evidence - NONE - that "trickle down" has ever worked, even with years of giving it every opportunity; and there is ample evidence showing real economic growth during periods of higher taxation and sensible regulation of banks and big business. Yet you still try to make the argument that it's somehow the fault of FDR, LBJ, and the creation of social safety nets? To say that it all started with FDR is about as simplistic and meaningless as saying it all started with Henry Ford when he paid his workers more than double the going rate of that time.

You wanna call someone an "idjit?" Just look in the mirror, bro, and say it out loud. You are as deserving of that epithet as anybody.
