Father in jail after child shoots mother in head

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. — A Lenoir City father is in jail after his 11-year-old son accidentally shot his mother in the head.

WBIR-TV reports 37-year-old Daniel Duggan is charged with child abuse by neglect for leaving a loaded pistol between the mattress and slats of a bunk bed.

Duggan was arrested Wednesday night and is being held in the Loudon County jail on a $2,500 bond.

Duggan’s wife, 35-year-old Stacy Duggan, is in serious condition at UT Medical Center.

According to a deputy’s report on the Tuesday night accident, the 11-year-old said he thought the gun was a toy.

On Wednesday, Daniel Duggan told the station the boy had a traumatic brain injury from a car accident.

The state Department of Children’s Services has taken custody of the boy and his three siblings.
