Both the prosecution and defense have made their closing arguments today in a 21-year-old’s murder trial, after showing a video of the young man tearfully admitting to a detective that he shot his 18-year-old friend at a gathering.
Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman must charged the jury, which he is expected to do in the next few minutes. The jury could start deliberations immediately or come back Tuesday morning to begin.
Today is the fifth day in the trial of Myles Stout, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the March 9, 2011 shooting death of Myles Compton.
In the video, Stout repeatedly says the shooting was an accident, that he didn't know the gun was loaded when he pulled the trigger. Prosecutors have argued that Stout was aware the gun was loaded, possibly loading the gun himself.
Stout told Steelman that he would not take the stand to testify.
Attorneys are now presenting closing arguments.
