$5,000 reward offered in Rainsville, Ala., shooting

An anonymous donor put up $5,000 for information leading to an arrest after the Aug. 24 shooting of two employees at Fred’s Super Dollar store in Rainsville, officials said.

“We are really excited about this news and feel very blessed to have the support of someone so generous and willing to offer such a large reward,” DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris states in a news release.

Fyffe, Ala., residents Josh Nance, 24, and Matt Whitt, 39, were shot when a would-be robber approached the front doors of the store just as one of the two employees entered the store and locked the door behind himself at 9:08 CDT, according to officials.

Officials say the assailant tried the door, was told the store was closed, then drew a handgun and fired twice, striking one of two men at the door and the other as he tried to run away.

Anyone who has any information about this case can call the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office at 256-845-3801.
