Chattanooga City Council, Mayor Ron Littlefield hear report on gang study

Mayor Ron Littlefield said a citywide gang study lacks one thing that concerns him — information on gang activity in Hamilton County.

“We need better data,” he said this morning when the study was presented to the City Council.

The meeting lasted more than two hours as the council was information about the most comprehensive gang study in the history of Chattanooga. Among the details is that the public believes most gang activity is occurring within schools, recreation centers and social media.

Boyd Patterson, Chattanooga’s head of the Gang Task Force, said he would now begin scheduling meetings with the Hamilton County Commission, the Hamilton County Department of Education and the Greater Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce to present the findings.
