Chattanooga shootings send 2 to hospital

Chattanooga police are investigating weekend shootings that injured two men.

Officers responded to a shooting about 9:45 p.m. Saturday. The victim, Corey Gillespie, 37, was taken to a local hospital in a personal vehicle and was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to a police department news release.

Police said Gillespie was in the parking lot of 1101 Arlington Ave. when he was shot.

At 3:18 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a shooting at 1526 Dodds Ave. They found Darrell Martin, 22, with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Martin was taken to a hospital for treatment of an injury that was not life-threatening, police said.

It was reported that a suspect, described as a 20- to 25-year-old black man, tried to rob Martin, and during a struggle, Martin was shot.
