Boy on bike hit by car, flown to hospital

Life Force airlifted a 10-year-old boy to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after his bicycle collided with an SUV.

Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Bob Gault said the bicycle hit the SUV’s driver’s-side fender at the intersection of Hughes Road and Bates Pike. The boy pulled out of the parking lot at the Union Grove Church of Christ around 4 p.m. The SUV was heading east on Bates Pike.

As of Wednesday evening, the boy remains at the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger. Officers have not released the identity of the 54-year-old female SUV driver, but after the crash she went to SkyRidge Medical Center to treat minor injuries.

Gault said the traffic unit of the sheriff’s office is investigating the crash.
