University of Alabama student sues over nude photos on Internet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A University of Alabama art student has filed a federal court suit alleging nude photos of her ended up on the Internet after she had work done on her computer at Best Buy.

Attorneys for Nicole March told AL.com that she filed the invasion of privacy suit Friday in federal court in Birmingham. It names Best Buy Corp. and Geek Squad Technical Support as defendants.

The suit says March was working at Best Buy in Tuscaloosa and took her computer there in 2011 to have data retrieved from the hard drive. It says the photos were for her professional reference, but a Geek Squad member told her in mid-May that the photos were in circulation.

The lawsuit said March has had "professional and privately made" nude photographs taken for artistic purposes and stored them on her computer for private and professional references.

The company does not comment on pending litigation, said Best Buy spokeswoman Paula Baldwin.

"In this day in society we've got to do everything we can to protect privacy and that's the purpose of this suit," March's attorney Steve Heninger told AL.com.

March also filed a report with the Tuscaloosa Police Department. The lawsuit also claims outrageous conduct, breach of contract, negligent supervision, training, and entrustment, negligence and wantoness.
