about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

According to some of the posts I've read on this site, this poor child would not dare to climb on this lap, because dems poisoned the repub well with social security, medicare, medicaid, food stamps, and other types of socialism. The cartoon is, therefore, inaccurate. Nonetheless, in efforts to object to the cartoon or to show their stupidity or ignorance or disdain without regard to the cartoon or the topic:

junktrash will copy and post drivel - boldly marking parts of it - from someone with no credentials.

In his unique spirit of christmas, joneses will talk about his multi-million dollar company and his decision to cancel health care insurance for employees and pocket the savings.

maxistinkypad, whatever she says, will remind us that she truly has nothing to say of any consequence.

conservative will quote passages of his bible.

no truth, the least offensive (he is, after all, a moderate), will post a cryptic remark.

and so it goes.

The question is:

Is it moral to give (let's be honest in this context -- to forcibly surrender) one's belongings unconditionally?

Our "poor" live better than Royalty did just several centuries ago.

Running, clean water, heat and air, access to health care, a roof over their heads, subsidized food, cable to watch America's Got Talent, big-arse flat screens.

Is what I've evidenced even debatable? At what point will altruistic Socialist sociopaths, ever so happy to fleece the self-sufficient to fund their boondoggles and visions of Nirvana, ever be satisfied?

Apparently Uncle Sugar doesn't put out enough to satisfy even the most ardent Socialist sociopaths.

New Rule: It's OK if you don't want to feed the hungry, or heal the sick, or house the homeless. Just don't say you're doing it for their own good. Don't say you'd like to help people, but your hands are tied because if you did, it would cause a culture of dependency, or go against the Bible, or worst of all, rob them of their freedom... to be sick and hungry.

Just admit you're selfish, and based on how little your beliefs mirror the actual teachings of Jesus, you might as well claim to worship Despicable Me.

Now I bring this up, because last week new food stamp cuts went into effect, and Congressman Steve Fincher, a Republican from Dogpatch, justified the cuts by quoting the Bible — "The one who does not work shall not eat." And it reminded me that I keep seeing stories in the news about Christians stiffing servers in restaurants. Like the Applebee's waitress in Missouri who got this note from a church pastor.

Written on the check, it said, "I give God 10%. Why do you get 18?" Prompting the question, who ordered the piping hot a$$hole?

This is what Jesus would do? I doubt it. I think what Jesus would do is move the hell out of that part of Missouri. And if you're a waiter or waitress in the Bible Belt, you may very well have seen one of these... It's a phony $10 dollar bill that Christians sometimes leave on the table in lieu of an actual tip. It looks like a $10, so you get the benefit of giving poor people hope, and then crushing it, but on the back it says, "Some things are better than money ... like your eternal salvation that was bought and paid for by Jesus going to the cross."

I don't know what the snake-handlers have against the food-handlers, or when restaurant receipts became the new bully pulpit, but there was another story recently, this one from Kansas, where instead of a tip, a Christian family left their server, who they knew was gay, this note:

"Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience top you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD. Queers do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours."

If we're compassionate, we'll help them, but you get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right. The poor have become the prime "social project" for high schoolers wanting to get into an ivy league school. Our neighbors rode around Chattanooga........yes folks.....LOOKING FOR THE HOMELESS....the night before Thanksgiving as part of their daughters senior social work project at GPS. The goal is to then write a paper on the life changing experience to be used for college admission requirements. My advice to them as they left:

  1. Be careful, don't get caught in the cross fire.
  2. Some bums like living outside with not a care in the world.
  3. You may not find any.

I was correct with my third point. They came home all disappointed that they did not find any homeless people to take to the shelter. I suggested that they go to church on Sunday and then go visit a nursing home. They went out the next night and still found no takers. She decided on the nursing home idea and had a terrific experience learning about a time when most everyone worked for a living and had too much personal pride to sign up for any type of guvment relief if they were healthy enough to work.

I grew up on the other side of the tracks in basically a shack on the black side of Chattanooga. Both my parents worked. My Mom was a maid and had a great relationship with the family she worked for and my Dad was an ice man delivering ice to customers throughout Chattanooga. Some people were still using "block ice" for their fridges back then. My Uncle and his wife who lived down the street were both high school teachers, Mr. Vergies next door, drove a tractor, I had a paper route at the age of 10........my point, and this was the late 60's early 70's, everyone in the black community that could worked. Families stayed together worked hard and raised a generation of kids with a desire to advance via hard work. As the so called great society has grown into Obamaphones, a tax and welfare system that rewards out of wedlock births, non soul crushing EBT cards instead of soul crushing food stamps that they have to "show" at the check out counter......all of this has created a Democrat voting block, blacks voting 98% Republican, that we all should be ashamed of. Surely more than 2% of blacks can think for themselves instead of listening to the silly elites like Ike and Mickey Rat who probably feel guilty when they see someone pushing a broom or shining shoes at the airport. The cartoon from Clay The Victimized Military Brat is reflective of the artificial sentiment the Democrat party throws at the so called poor and minority groups and is at the heart of the mental disease called secular humanist liberalism. I still remember my Dad in his green khakis using that big ole ice hook to throw ice in the back of his ice truck. What great pride that gave me. At that time, my Dad was the strongest man in the world.

My first job was at Mcdonalds. Was there 3 and a half years. It was a good company and great first job. However, it wasn't what I wanted for a career. If you want it as your career, or are in a place where unfortunately it has to be your career, then bust your butt and move up with the company. If the minimum wage in the mean time isn't enough, then when your finished your shift, then go to your second job at Wendy's. People think they should be able to work 40 hours a week as a cashier and be able to buy a house. Most of the time, making a decent living is going to require much more than 40 hours a week. A lot of people want something for nothing. Get out there and work harder than the person next to you and obtain a skill set that actually makes you marketable and you will never have to worry about minimum wage. And to the ones making minimum wage, if you don't like it then do something about it other than complaining.

Just imagine... the auto manufacturers of the world coming to a former Manhattan Project site to compete. The Germans, Japanese, Italians, British and Americans competing on a site that helped end World War II. All the infrastructure, roads and other valuable assets for a track were already there. As the president of CROET once said "It is already a racing facility. It just needs the track."

I corresponded with Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosley of Formula 1. I invited them to come to Oak Ridge for a tour of the facilities.

Back in October Congressman Trey Radel (R, FL) was busted for cocaine possession. Coincidentally he had just recently voted in favor of passing a GOP-sponsored bill that would force all food stamp recipients to pee in cups to prove that they are not doing drugs. While Trey Radel is just one member of congress who has been caught and exposed for his hypocrisy, there are undoubtedly far more politicians than he, from both parties, who are indulging in their recreational drugs of choice while working (if you want to call what they do "work!") on the tax payers' dime.

It has been determined that the number of welfare/food stamp recipients who are doing drugs is extremely low - less than 2%. And the cost to implement a drug testing program would be far more than the money saved from weeding out the few druggies that exist. Like "voter fraud," it is a problem that is not really a problem. But once again, we see the double standards that exist for the GOP and the "job creators," the "haves," the "rugged individualists" at the top: speak out against minimum wage increases for those at the bottom but vote in favor of yearly substantial wage increases for themselves; force the poor to pee in cups before they can get their pittance of food or monetary relief but don't dare ask the same of our boozing, powder-sniffing, pain-pill addicted politicians who are living large off the tax payers; and vote in favor of getting tough on crime, but when it comes to the white collar crimes of our politicians and gangster-bankers they get a slap on the wrist (at worst) and then expect forgiveness and another chance.

But then, the guys on Wall St. who played with other people's money and lost it all didn't even get a slap on the wrist - they were in fact rewarded! They were happy to receive the huge socialistic payout from the government to bail them out. Yes, put the screws to the poor and the needy (my god, they have refrigerators and stoves after all!) and bewail the evils of socialism, but tax breaks, second chances, and socialism for our politicos, corporate fat cats, and Wall St. prima donnas are fine and dandy, thank you. We all have our opinions. There are a couple of people who make it a habit to launch personal attacks and who cannot refrain from using offensive terms when they post.

This is strictly my own personal opinion, but such people deserve no response whatsoever because any point they may have to make, is lost the minute they lose their manners.

There is absolutely no excuse or defense for such behavior and there never will be.

Then you need to learn to read. Context is everything when offering a quote. When a quote is taken out of context, it's meaning is altered.

You are a master of taking quotes completely out of context and copying and pasting those of others.

Thus, your points are highly irrelevant, as they always have been.

It's your time to waste.

I did that and no confirmation can be found.

You're the master of Google found masterpieces and it's hard not to notice that you did not find anything either, or you would have loved shoving it in my face.

The man may well have said it, but there is no proof to be found that he did, so it remains a rumor, despite your best attempt to muddy the issue with additional quotes of his proven bigotry.

I'm quite sure the man was a Dixiecrat, as were many Southern Democrats prior to the mid-1960's. Several exited for the Republican Party, many left politics altogether, and the rest hve seen the error of their ways and changed their views.

Any quotes of Democrats prior to around 1965 is quite pointless, for that Democrat party is quite dead and their views have changed tremendously.

"Why nit pick it just because you can?Johnson was a lowlife scum sucker!"

He certainly is not a favorite President of mine, that's for sure.

"Has nothing to do w/Obama so give it up!years ago i read an account of this where a big shot reporter heard Johnson say this! That has since dissapeared from the web!"

Nothing against you, but it is a rumor and in the absence of any proof that he did indeed say it, I simply prefer not to mar the reputation of a man who is no longer able to defend himself.

As I did offer earlier, it is entirely possible that he did say it, and it is in line with other provable quotes that do exist, but that one does not appear to be a provable quotation attributable to Lyndon Baines Johnson.

It is the sort of compassion that eats like poison into the bones of a man or a society, even while swelling their egos with their own wonderfulness. Compassion of this sort is outrage fuel. It is hatred toward people masquerading as love. And that hatred is a desire for power masquerading as outrage. And if you think about it, isn't voting for a government official a type of "conflict of interest" if that official is partly responsible for financially supporting your way of life?

You have to understand that building wealth and success in America is about the game. As I have said before, with the true rugged individualist entrepreneur it makes no difference which party is in power or which Wall Street firm befriends Obama, and there are a lot of them by the way, I'm going to figure out a way to grow MY wealth each year, provide for MY family, give to MY church, and give to the charities of MY choice. That's how the game, our free market Democracy works and the more people out there working to generate income instead of taking from the guvment the better off everyone in America is. Now what you and Barry The Make The Economy Work For Everyone is the enforced poverty and mediocrity of equality of results leading to equality of income and that old sport is impossible in the United States at least for now. Rickaroo you ought to move to North Korea where most everyone has a chance to bow to Dear Leader and contribute everything to the greater good while starving and freezing to death. Your not ready to let go of the oldest and ugliest prejudices you've held so dear. A political research group called Democracy Corps spearheaded by Stanley Greenberg published a report that extreme right wing Rebublicans and Teapartiers are very conscious of being white in a country that is increasingly minority. The race issue is alive and well, and President Obama and Obama Care is the racial match that has lit a hatred thought forgotten in this so called Christian Nation. So before you baggers start saying I'am playing the race card, if I'am, you dealt it. Such as believing that the Democratic Party is expanding the social safety net to buy votes, or Obamcare is a freebie to the alleged 47 percent of lazy Americans who don't want to work and live off gov.assistance. When in fact the major majority of these people work themselves nearly to death trying to live off minimum wage(the GOP refuses to raise)pay high rent and utility bills and provide for their families and you teabagging you know whats, have the nerve to call these people lazy and everyone knows you are referring to people of color after your kind has deliberately done everything you could to keep minorities down. PT, unlike you I don't spend all day sitting on my ass in front of my computer, glued to this forum, so I just now saw your comment from yesterday, where you asked me if I was rich or not. I think that you had asked me that before. You seem to have a thing about it. If not you, then somebody else asked it, but I'm pretty sure it was you. Anyway, I said it before but I will say it again - I am not rich. I live modestly but comfortably on a few acres of land out in the country in a place that I have fully paid for.

I'm not sure what point you think you are trying to make regarding my personal finances. Personally I don't care whether you are rich or poor or somewhere in between. I know that a lot of you lib-bashers like to make the argument that we libs hate, yet envy, rich people, so maybe that is why you are so concerned with my own finances. I can't speak for other libs but I myself neither hate nor envy people who are richer than me. I have never begrudged anyone their wealth. In fact I have a couple of friends who are extremely rich, and remarkably liberal, too. I do not envy them their wealth. Nor do I hate even those wealthy people who are ideologically opposed to me. Or if I do hate them, or strongly dislike them, it is not because of their wealth, it is because they tend to be a-holes in general. I also admire, respect, and appreciate business owners, at least those who offer their goods and services at a reasonable price, treat their employees with dignity and respect, and have a social conscience regarding their community and the environment.

It's time you lib-bashers opened your eyes, ears, and minds and saw where we libs are really coming from, instead of falling back on your trite, worn-out sound-bytes in which you claim that we hate business owners and people who make profits and have money. We are not calling for some Marxist utopia or even an eradication of the free market, like you all claim. We are just calling for a system that is not rigged in favor of the rich - with the money gushing upward and only crumbs trickling down to those at the bottom. You say that redistribution of wealth is evil socialism but you don't acknowledge how the wealth has been disproportionately distributed upwards for the past 30+ years. This nation is not broke! The money is just in the pockets of the few at the top, and for the most part, they have not earned it, they have stolen it, in a system that is highly rigged in their favor. We need balance, and that balance can only come from a symbiotic relationship between government and the free market. Neither one can exist in a vacuum.

Like "voter fraud," it is a problem that is not really a problem.

Your information is totally wrong but someone has to feed the addicts or they will steal enough to support their habit and to have food.
