The Bryan College women's basketball team knocked first-place Milligan into a tie with Tennessee Wesleyan in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with a 65-57 upset victory Saturday afternoon in Dayton, and then the Bryan men got within a half-game of the second-place Buffaloes by winning 71-67.

Wesleyan's Lady Bulldogs (15-8 overall) beat Columbia (S.C.) 80-62 in Athens to equal the Lady Buffs at 12-2 in league play. The first-place TWC men were off.

Robert Riley scored 25 points and Brandon Cole had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Bryan men (12-12, 8-4) after Morgan Burnette scored 25 points with 18 rebounds and four blocked shots in the fifth-place Lady Lions' win. Jenna Ray had 15 points and eight rebounds, Keila Formont scored 12 points and Abigail Pippenger had 11 rebounds with five assists.

Chattanoogan Kayla Kelly led Milligan (19-8) with 19 points and had seven rebounds. The Lady Buffs shot only 29.4 percent from the field, while Bryan shot 53.8 percent in the second half for a .386 game percentage.

Heather Gibson scored 21 points and Michelle Davis had 17 points and eight rebounds in Wesleyan's win.

• At Denmark, S.C., Hollie German scored 18 points, Jenna Adams had 14 points and eight rebounds, Brooke Hamby passed for 10 assists, Mariah Iles added 11 points and Mary Jackson had 12 rebounds as Lee's Lady Flames improved to 19-2 with a 67-45 win over Voorhees.

• At Cleveland, Will Barnes was 12-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-4 on 3-point shots, in scoring 31 points as the Lee men won 86-62 over winless Carver College. Steve Bennett and Jamorris Gaines scored 15 and 14 points and Chase Dunn and Duran Blue had five assists each for the Flames (21-1), ranked No. 2 in NAIA Division I. Nickolas Hood had 19 points and 15 rebounds for Carver, and Julian Bratton and Joe Comer scored 15 each.

• At Columbia, S.C., Tennessee Temple swept a doubleheader with a 58-49 women's win and an 80-65 men's triumph over Allen University. TaQuasha O'Neal and Amber Rector scored 15 and 14 points and Amber Charles made five steals for the Lady Crusaders (9-13).

Rashaud Bell scored 18 points and Elliot Johnson had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Temple guys (12-11), who got 12 points apiece from Hampton Mack and Corey Sanders.

• At Macon, Ga., the Covenant women romped 80-38 past Wesleyan (Ga.) in Great South play as Ruth Gibson scored 13 points and Jessie Blankenship and Elizabeth Bell added 12 and 10. Haley Soles grabbed eight rebounds and Blankenship and Alexis Storteboom each had seven.

• At Rossville, Kevin Tolbert and Pat Burns scored 19 and 17 points to lead visiting Emory-Oxford to a 64-58 defeat of Georgia Northwestern in an NJCAA Region XVII game. The Eagles are 16-6, 3-2 in the region. Quinton Cotton scored 14 and Hunter Ivester had 13 for the host Bobcats (7-15, 0-6), and Bud Todd blocked seven shots.

• At Gallatin, Tenn., on Friday, Volunteer State swept Cleveland State in a TCCAA doubleheader, 73-50 in the women's game and 87-81 in the men's. Cleveland's Cougars (11-6, 6-4) were playing without leading scorer Travis Jones, who broke a foot in practice, and dressed only eight players. They got 31 points from Ralph Eason, 14 from Kahan Swift and 12 apiece from Trey Suttles and Filipe Goncalves, while Martez Harris scored 23 for Vol State.

Natasha West led the Lady Pioneers (16-1, 10-1) with 17 points, while Shadave Taylor had 15 and Hannah Brown, Jara Gasper and Me'Lisa Martinez scored nine each for the Lady Cougars (12-7, 5-5).
