DALTON, Ga. (AP) — Fire officials in northwest Georgia are responding to a blaze at a chemical plant and say the incident has been placed under control.

The Dalton Daily Citizen reports firefighters were still on the scene at the Harcros industrial chemical manufacturing plant and residents nearby were temporarily evacuated from their homes.

Whitfield County Fire Chief Carl Collins says the fire was reported around 2 p.m. and no injuries have been reported.

Students at nearby Valley Point elementary and middle schools were sheltered in the building as firefighters dealt with the blaze about a mile away.
