Boy, 16, hospitalized after stabbing in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Police in Columbus say a stabbing that left a 16-year-old boy hospitalized stemmed from an argument over a girl.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested for aggravated assault in the case, and his bond has been set at $5,500.

Police tell the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer the teens were involved in a fistfight before the victim was stabbed. Police say the suspect told them he used the knife in self-defense. Police say they have not located the weapon and the teen told them he threw it into a wooded area.

Columbus police say the unidentified victim was stabbed in the upper right side of his chest Monday night and was taken to St. Francis Hospital. Authorities Wednesday said the boy was in intensive care.
