Police responding to a burglar alarm at an East Ridge duplex instead found a fire and several broken windows today.
No one was at the 6913 B Martha Ave. residence when officials arrived shortly after noon, East Ridge police said. The cause of the fire is unknown, but foul play is not believed to have been a factor, police said.
Heat from the fire probably caused the windows to shatter, triggering the burglar alarm, police said.
Damage is estimated at $35,000.
