The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team evened its 2013 record at 1-1 with a 4-3 win over Tennessee Tech on Sunday at the Racquet Club in Hixson, and seniors and freshmen recorded all the Mocs' victories. UTC got the doubles point with seniors Roberto Vieira and Chris Smith breezing to an 8-1 win and classmate Stephen Crofford combining with freshman John Peacey from Australia for an 8-5 triumph at No. 3. The Mocs took the first three singles matches that finished, seniors Manuel Barroetavena and Jackson Tresnan losing only two games each at Nos. 3 and 6 and freshman Luke Saunders from Nova Scotia prevailing 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 to clinch the team win. Saunders and Barroetavena each is 2-0 in singles. Two of the Mocs' singles losses went three sets.
• The Sewanee basketball teams lost their Southern Athletic Association games Sunday afternoon against visiting Oglethorpe, 39-35 in the women's game and 78-62 in the men's. Jordan Kinney was 7-of-11 from the field and 6-of-6 on free throws in scoring 20 points and Branden Jovaag added 17 with 5-of-9 3-point success for the Oglethorpe men (12-5, 4-2), who led 36-16 at halftime. Keshonn Carter, Nilan Hodge and Tyler Brown led the Tigers (8-6, 1-5) with 12, 11 and 10 points, Brown also collecting a game-high nine rebounds. Paige Lowe had 14 points with four 3s for the female Tigers (5-9, 0-6), and Jamie Chauvin had eight rebounds and matched Dee Bradford's four steals. Sarah Giles led the Stormy Petrels (4-13, 2-4) with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Swimming & Diving
• The Sewanee swimming and diving teams totaled a 382-point win over the University of Tennessee club team in the Tigers' final home meet of the season Saturday. Tuning up for an SAA meet this Saturday at Centre, the Sewanee men won the 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle events; the 50 and 100 backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke races; the 100 individual medley; the 200 medley and free relays; and 1- and 3-meter diving. The hosts also won all the corresponding women's events except the 200 free.
