U.S. Women's Am qualifier at Dalton

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfer Jordan Britt and Baylor School standout Blakesly Warren from Chattanooga will be among the 89 participants Monday in a U.S. Women's Amateur qualifying tournament at Dalton Golf and Country Club. Former Walker Valley High School player Avery George of Macon, Jenna Burris of Manchester and St. Andrew's-Sewanee, Logan Chaney of Scottsboro, Ala., and Lee University golfer Courtney Shelton of Franklin, Tenn., also will be playing 18 holes for nine spots and two alternate positions in the national field. The 113th U.S. Women's Am runs Aug. 5-11 at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.

• Former Baylor School golfer Alyssa Brown of Centre College made the all-region team for NCAA Division III's Great Lakes Region for 2013. The 10-player team included three from the Danville, Ky., school. Brown also made the Southern Athletic Association spring academic honor roll.

Track & Field

• OLPH eighth-grader Will Bordash is hoping to have earned spots in the Hershey Track & Field national meet Aug. 3 in Hershey, Pa., by winning the 1600- and 800-meter races last Saturday in the state meet in Nashville. Bordash ran the 800 in 2:27.9 and the "mile" in 5:27, and a committee is in the process of comparing times from across the country to see who moves on to the nationals. Bordash, a soccer player who began running track just last spring, won both sprint events in a Hershey's regional meet May 18 in Murfreesboro, where his grandparents live. He has run the 1600 in 5:20.
