Movies in the Park a great success
The East Lake Neighborhood Association sponsored its first Movies in the Park event June 28 at East Lake Park. It was a great success with more than 120 people attending to see a great family movie. We wish to thank Lt. Glenn Scruggs, Fox Patrol commander for East Lake, and his fellow officers for coming by. Thank you also to Mr. Glenn Sheppard and the Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department for co-sponsoring the event and providing people to help with parking and other logistics.
We are looking forward to the next Movie in the Park nights in East Lake Park on Aug. 16.
There is no comparing Quran to the Bible
I'm quite taken aback to read in Saturday's paper what former President Jimmy Carter describes as theologically indispensable misguided doctrines from both the Quran and the Bible, Old and New Testaments.
He seems to equate the Quran and the Bible. Methinks he thinks too highly of himself that he can compare these two writings as he does. Of all the books ever written, the New Testament is sublime in its reference to and treatment of women.
Wonderful truth is both revealed and concealed in the Old and New Testaments, and they go together. Psalms 38:2. "I will worship toward thy Holy Temple and praise thy name for thy loving kindness and for thy truth; for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."

It's time for a change at Chattanooga zoo
If the administrators at the Chattanooga Zoo cannot submit their paperwork on time even after repeated reminders, it makes me wonder what kind of care those animals out there are really getting.
Time for a change?

Ace Hardware plays important role in city
Regarding the commentary by Tom Glenn of Ace Hardware, "A plan to restore fairness to the marketplace," no matter what one's opinion of taxes for online retailers, I want everyone to understand how much Ace Hardware stores do for our local community.
As a Unum employee, I participate in Unum volunteer days painting at local schools and charities such as the Chambliss Children's Shelter. Unum and TVA provide hundreds of volunteers, and Ace Hardware donates many thousands of dollars worth of paint, brushes, drop cloths, scrapers, rollers, paint dispensers, tape and other materials for these projects.
Please don't take for granted the important social role that Ace Hardware plays in our local area. I've seen it with my own eyes and know it is real.
Gay marriage is a slippery slope
Your editorial, triumphantly titled, "Love trumps bigotry," regarding the Supreme Court rulings on gay "marriage," betrays a bigotry of its own. In lockstep with the lifestyle left, your suggestion that bigotry grounds the defense of marriage stereotypes supporters as homophobes, haters, and moral retrogrades. It is a disparagement that would include the likes of Barack Obama prior to his recent "evolution," every civilization up until the present time, and even Jesus Christ, who, when the subject of marriage came up and despite the prevalence of homosexuality in his day, didn't update the institution to accommodate cultural practice, but reaffirmed it as originally established.
Also, to your remark that "no one should care who marries whom" -- would that include the marriage of a brother and sister, a mother and son, groups of three, five, 20? If, as you suggest, marriage is the right to marry whomever one loves, there is no rational argument to exclude any constellation of associations man can imagine. Ridiculous? Consider that six years after Canada legalized same-sex "marriage," their High Court upheld the legality of polyamorous relationships. The slope is indeed slippery, Canada is descending at breakneck speed, and the U.S. is not far behind.
U.S. Taxpayers' money belongs in America
In the media it was stated our country gives Egypt $1 billion a year. While our president was in Africa $7 billion was directed to Africa. This is American taxpayers' money.
On the Fourth of July (due to the sequester) fireworks could not be held on some our military bases. There are reports of low moral, even suicides. There is definitely something wrong with this picture.
