Scam artist poses as Dalton police, demands money

“This is the police, and we have a warrant for your family member’s arrest. Give us some money, and that warrant will go away.”

That is the message a scam artist has given to at least two people in Dalton in the last week, police say. The scammer calls the victim and says a relative has been arrested, but the Dalton Police Department will “take care” of a warrant if you load money onto a prepaid Green Dot credit card at Walmart.

If you receive a call like this, Dalton police want you to call Detective Chris Tucker at 706-278-9085, extension 165, or Detective Matthew Locke at 706-278-9085, extension 320.
