Anti-mountaintop coal mining protest in Chattanooga planned today

A Chattanooga demonstration is set for today at 11 a.m. to protest mountaintop removal coal removal.

The protest will be in front of the Krystal building at the corner of M.L. King Boulevard and Broad Street, according to a news release from the Hands Off Appalachia and Mountain Justice campaign.

The protest focuses on UBS Financial Services, which helps fund mountaintop mining and has offices inside the Krystal building, the release said.

The local demonstration will run until 1 p.m., the release said, and there are others planned over the next week in Knoxville, Johnson City, Cookeville and Kingsport in Tennessee and Asheville in North Carolina.
