Snow showers and windy conditions will persist through this evening, the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn., reports.
The heaviest snowfall is expected along the mountains of east Tennessee.
Parts of the greater Chattanooga area received a dusting of snow last night. Lawns and rooftops on Signal Mountain were covered with a thin layer of snow. Some roads were also covered, but passable.
Several school systems are closed today because of winter weather:
CLOSINGS:
• Bledsoe County Schools
• Grundy County Schools
• Marion County Schools
• Rhea County Schools
• Richard Hardy Memorial School
• Sequatchie County Schools
DELAYS:
• The Fannin County Health Department in Blue Ridge has delayed opening until 10 a.m.
