Interstate 24 will be closed in Hamilton County part of Sunday morning so TVA can transport a large power transformer to its Raccoon Mountain hydro pump storage facility.
Weather-permitting, the transport company will leave the railroad facility on Wauhatchi Pike in Chattanooga at 7:30 a.m. The 500,000-pound load will travel along Cummings Highway and Raccoon Mountain Road to the plant site, according to a news release.
Because the transporter is too large to go under the interstate overpass, I-24 at exit 174 will close for approximately 10 minutes to allow for the equipment to travel up the on-ramp, across the highway median and then back down the off-ramp. The interstate crossing will occur around 8:30 a.m.
