Shaw Industries Group Inc. wins industry awards
Shaw Industries Group Inc., has won several industry honors recognizing its product portfolio, leading edge design, sustainability leadership and customer service from resident flooring and commercial industry publications.

Shaw received two of the highest honors in the 2014 floor covering news (FCNews) award of excellence: best overall manufacturer and best in environmental leadership. These awards, which reflect the results of FCNews’ annual survey of thousands of flooring industry professionals, are aimed at identifying the best flooring manufacturers.
Sponsored by FCNews and the World Floor Covering Association, the award of excellence reflects feedback from industry insiders about the companies they feel consistently provide the best service, have the most responsive sales force, lead in environmental responsibility, have an effective management team and provide good value and leading edge design.
Additionally, The ReCo Market Intelligence Survey recognized Shaw as the leading brand in carpet, laminate and hardwood, and Shaw also received the pinnacle award, the highest honor in the green step awards recognizing environmental achievements and stewardship. The company received additional recognition for promotion of its partnership with St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Further, Shaw claimed several top places in the retailer survey conducted by Floor Focus, placing in the top three for service, design and quality in hardwood and carpet, and Shaw’s commercial brands once again garnered top honors at NeoCon, North America’s largest design exposition and conference for commercial interiors. Shaw Contract Group won a best of NeoCon award for the 13th consecutive year, a honor no one else in the industry can proclaim. Patcraft earned the brand’s second best of NeoCon award by addressing a growing interest in mixing hard and soft surface products.
Shaw Hospitality Group won best of show for flooring and best of competition for the Be Bold collection at the 2013 Hospitality and Design Expo and Conference, the premier trade show for the hospitality design industry. Presented by Hospitality Design magazine, the show is at the forefront of the newest and most innovative products and services, encouraging and sharing ideas, providing inspiration and connecting the industry.
Chestnut enters Dallas market
Chestnut Development Partners recently entered the Dallas, Texas, market with an investment in a partnership that acquired two three-story office buildings in Irving, Texas. The property, totaling 95,875 square feet and currently 85 percent leased, is located in Decker Hills Office Park in Las Colinas. This is Chestnut’s first investment in Texas and alongside Red River Asset Management LLC of New York, N.Y.
“Real estate is about people,” said Bruce Stern of Red River Asset Management, “and this deal happened because of relationships. All of the real estate professionals involved in the transaction know each other. We trust each other and were able to put together a complex deal based on handshakes. In the future we want to explore more deals with Chestnut. ”
Because of a lack of new office construction and increased economic growth in the Dallas market, the office market has strengthened as evidenced by increasing rental rates and declining vacancy. Red River and Chestnut plan to embark upon a capital improvement program to upgrade the building systems and enhance aesthetic appeal.
Bible, Nemec complete training
David Bible, PE, project manager in water services, and Ben Nemec, PE, LEED AP, project manager in land resources, from the Chattanooga office of Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon Inc., have graduated from the firm’s 18-month Barge Waggoner Leadership Institute.
