2,000 Chattanooga Amazon workers fill Cyber Monday orders

Some 2,000 Amazon employees at its Chattanooga distribution center today were busy shipping packages on Cyber Monday, which company officials again believe will be its busiest day of the year.

Rena Lunak, a spokesman for the nation's No. 1 online retailer, said that Christmas holiday shopping on the worldwide web was off to a strong start this past weekend so there's no reason to expect today won't top last year's high mark.

She said that Amazon is receiving orders for about 426 items per second across its expansive network. Last year, 38 million items were ordered on Cyber Monday, Lunak said.

Inside the huge distribution Chattanooga facility in Enterprise South industrial park, workers were receiving, processing, packing, and shipping goods at a fast pace.

"It's humans and technology," Lunak said about the work.

Toys and goods related to the hit movie "Frozen" were among the top-selling items so far, she said.
