A key partner may have throttled back on its part of the project, but the Tennessee Valley Authority plans to move ahead on plans to develop an Oak Ridge site for a small nuclear reactor.
It's hoped that Babcock & Wilcox will complete its reactor design despite cutbacks in the project, and a small modular reactor will be installed at TVA's Clinch River site in Oak Ridge, said Ric Perez, TVA senior vice president of nuclear operations and support.
But, if that doesn't happen, TVA - which is working to get the site certified for an SMR - will do that in a way that another reactor design can be used, he said.
