UPDATE: Chattanooga bomb squad investigates suspicious package in Ooltewah

photo Law enforcement officers have closed roads around a convenience store after someone reported a suspicious package.

Chattanooga police's bomb unit found a suspicious package to be empty after a customer reported that the package was leaning against one of the gas pumps, said Janice Atkinson, public information officer for Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Roads were closed just before 1 p.m. after the bomb unit arrived "until the Bomb Squad can render it safe," said Chattanooga police Public Information Officer Tim McFarland. The city's bomb unit was called to assist the sheriff's office.

The owner of the convenient store, The Market, 5010 Hunter Road, contacted authorities when he was notified of the package.
