Chattanooga's Aon Miller new TGA president

Chattanooga resident Aon Miller, a member of the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club as well as The Honors Course, has been elected as the 79th president of the Tennessee Golf Association. Area residents Jim Srite and Paul Roess will join the TGA board of directors. "Our two main goals are to run the best state golf championships in the country," said Miller, who began serving on the board in 2004. "With this being our centennial anniversary, we also want to shore up our finances so that we're solid for the next 100 years." The TGA is celebrating is centennial anniversary throughout the year with championships at the best courses in the state and with special dinner receptions in every district from the Tri-Cities to Memphis.

• Two rounds in at both sites, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team is ninth in the 14-team Querencia Cabo Collegiate tournament in Mexico, and the women's team is 10th out of 20 teams at the Kiawah Classic. Led by Emily McLennan and Agathe Sauzon in a tie for 23rd at 151 and Jordan Britt and Isabella Loza also in the top 50 at 153 and 154, the female Mocs are at 608, two strokes out of seventh and five shots clear of 11th-place Boston University. Kent State leads at 594. The Mocs in Mexico are at 596, one shot behind 17th-ranked Arkansas with No. 11 Houston leading at 573. UTC's Ewan Scott is tied for 14th individually at 146 after a 71 Monday, and Liam Johnston, Chris Robb and Davis Bunn are at 149, 150 and 151 after their 73, 73 and 72 second rounds.

• Chattanooga Christian junior Lake Johnson won again on the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour this past weekend with a 143 that included a hole-in-one late in his 72 Sunday in the UGA Golf Course Junior Classic at Athens, Ga. His on-the-fly 172-yard ace on No. 16 helped him win by one over Scott Odell of Claxton, Ga., who closed with a 144.

Wrestling

• Preston McCalmon, an Arizona State junior from LaFayette, Ga., placed third over the weekend at the Pac-12 wrestling championships at 149 pounds. A dean's list member at Arizona State last semester, McCalmon was a four-time Georgia state finalist and three-time champion at LaFayette. He completed his high school career with a 198-21 record. Oregon State won the six-team tournament with 155.5 points and was followed by Stanford, Boise State and Arizona State.

Baseball

• Bryan College swept the Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball awards for the week with L.J. Rowden from Soddy-Daisy being honored as the pitcher of the week and freshman Justin Morhardt from Winsted, Conn., selected as the top overall player. Rowden struck out nine batters in his nine-inning three-hitter against Truett-McConnell on Friday, and Morhardt homered in each of the Lions' three wins and totaled seven RBIs.

• Tennessee Tech senior second baseman Zach Zarzour from Ooltewah and Chattanooga State was the Ohio Valley Conference baseball co-player of the week after batting .706 (12-for-17) as the leadoff man in the Golden Eagles' 4-0 week. He had two doubles, two RBIs, two stolen bases and five runs scored in the four games, including a 4-for-4 performance against Lipscomb.

Softball

• Dominique Hannah's third-inning grand slam propelled the Lee University softball team to a 6-3 home win over West Georgia in the final game of their Gulf South Conference weekend series Sunday. Hailey Clark got the save for starting pitcher Angie Hughes and went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored for Lee (9-10, 4-1).

Tennis

• Covenant College senior Madeline Hyatt was the USA South women's tennis player of the week after going 2-1 at No. 1 singles and 2-1 also in doubles last week, with all four wins coming in league play by dominating scores. Her singles wins were 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0, and she and Sarah Carter won twice by 8-1.

Lacrosse

• Three goals and an assist by Davis Brown led the Sewanee men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 win over visiting Kenyon on Sunday. Matthew Stiefel had two goals and an assist and Michael Morris had two assists with one goal for Sewanee (2-1), while Tommy Healy made 10 saves.

• Katie Riddle had four goals and three assists and Sally Anne Greenwood also scored four goals as the Sewanee women's lacrosse team improved to 5-1 with a 16-7 home win Sunday against Carthage. Chelsea Staunton had two goals and two assists and Wittney Reed and Brita Brudvig netted two goals each as well for the Tigers, who outshot their guests 31-21 and got 11 saves from Crawford Horan.
