One killed in Highway 58 crash

The Chattanooga Police Department reported that an accident on Highway 58 at Champion Road on Thursday morning resulted in one fatality and two people being taken to the hospital.

A police department news release said the driver of a four-door sedan, Donna Giarrusso, 55, died at the scene. That vehicle was attempting to cross the southbound lane of Highway 58 from Champion Road when it was struck by a four-door truck traveling southbound on Highway 58.

A juvenile passenger in the sedan was taken to a local hospital and treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck, William Young, 53, also was taken to a hospital and treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

Southbound Highway 58 traffic was blocked off at Hickory Valley Road and northbound Highway 58 traffic was blocked at Eller Road, police said.

Police are still investigating the two-vehicle accident.
