Get Limbaugh off armed forces radio and other letters to the editors

Get Limbaugh off armed forces radio

Our taxpayer money pays Rush Limbaugh to be on U.S. Armed Forces Radio. That may be the most egregious misuse of our tax money! Please call and/or write your senators and representatives, sign all petitions, and do everything else you can possibly do to get this vile, hatefully divisive, un-American, anti-patriotic, lying hypocrite off our government payroll! Rush Limbaugh's only message is hatred! Hate radio and Fox News are some of the most destructive entities ever unleashed on our country! With their hateful divisive lies, they inspire and encourage low-intelligence, non-fact seekers such as the Timothy McVeighs and all the hate groups out there. We recently had a Nazi gang right here in Chattanooga. Most folks condemned them, just as they should have, but the above mentioned groups fit right in with those fascist groups and their hatred of "others." They intentionally block information. Here is an example: They know that GOP voters will not check to see how their politicians vote. In February 2014, all but two Republican senators voted against a bill for improving veterans' benefits. Two others did not vote, and the bill failed to pass. Then they direct the blame on President Obama and Democrats!

Police blotter for city missed

I was told by an employee of the paper that the Chattanooga police and Hamilton County Sheriff's Office were refusing to put the police blotter in a usable format for the newspaper. I contacted both Hamilton County Commissioner Joseph Graham and City Councilman Chip Anderson's office and have already gotten a call from Mayor Andy Berke's office. I told them specifically as a citizen of this city that I want to see the police blotter -- show what is going on here in Chattanooga. I am also aware it is a popular item in our fine newspaper, of which I am a loyal subscriber. This letter is to show that we the citizens of Chattanooga should contact our officials when something is wrong with this city. I, for one, look forward to seeing Chattanooga crime listed again in our paper.

Abandoned babies and abortion

Everyone! Please re-read the "Man meets woman - - -" article (Saturday, May 24, Times Free Press) a couple of times! Try to imagine the scene, the thoughts and feelings of the boy and his grandfather on discovering that baby. Just try hard, because unless you have been in that situation yourself it's impossible to know what they must have felt. Now think about the woman who lives knowing that her mother wanted her dead, left unloved and abandoned in a field. Do you feel anguish -- sadness? That abandoned baby girl represents, in a tiny way, what we do thousands of times every day as we kill unwanted "fetuses" -- babies inconvenient, unloved, abandoned -- not in some farm field but in an abortion clinic's dumpster.

ABORTION KILLS CHILDREN

The principal of freedom of speech comes strongly in to play here. While I personally regard Limbaugh as a right-wing hate monger, he has a right to speak and express his ideas as much as anyone else and folks in uniform have a right to listen to him or anyone else the choose just like civilians do.

Our guys and gals in uniforms have brains. They can make up their own minds regarding what comes out of the mouth of Limbaugh just like the rest of us can.

"Our guys and gals in uniforms have brains." - Plato

That's questionable, Plato. If they had brains they would not have signed up in the first place. It has been obvious almost from the very onset of the wars that Iraq was totally unjustified, based on lies and outright deceit; and Afghanistan is massive overkill - once the mission of ferreting out and eviscerating al-Qaeda was accomplished (and that took place in a matter of days) the only other "enemy" we have been fighting there are those who oppose us only because we're there in the first place, decimating their country and killing innocent people. Yet, young enlistees keep signing on the dotted line, marching off to war, and Americans keep shouting "Hooray for the troops and hooray for our side!" - even though we are the ones who are the terrorists, blowing their country to smithereens and continuing to kill innocent people (on top of the hundreds of thousand of innocent people we have already killed).

We have to stop pretending that our troops are all heroes just because they decide to put on a uniform. The younger generation has to wise up to the fact that our government consists of a Military-Industrial-Corporatist Complex and they are not serving their country in the true sense of the word, they are becoming mere cogs in the war machine, willing accomplices in the murder of countless innocent people. They are not "protecting our freedoms," as many Americans like to delude themselves, they are only serving the interests of those who have turned war into a highly profitable business.

We need to start giving more praise to those who have the integrity and the intelligence to say NO to the war machine, and less praise to those who are so willing to become pawns on the chessboard of the MIC. Americans have a way of glorifying war and violence, no matter whether the wars we engage in are justified or not. But there is no honor in fighting in a war that is itself dishonorable.

Walter you're an ass. What hate? You mean because he doesn't agree with you? Because he's a conservative? I've been listening to Limbaugh since day one in 1988 and I have yet to hear any "hate". He treats his callers, no matter what ideology they are, with respect. These racist and hater charges against him are ridiculous. Your rant is nothing but diarrhea. Who should be on armed forces radio, Ed Shultz, Rachel Madcow, or some other lib? You won't find any libs who are successful on the radio. They continually bomb. Moron

May 31, 2014 at 2 p.m.

Those in the armed forces can decide what to listen to themselves. If they don't want to hear Limbaugh, don't tune in, and listen to something else. Walter you're a typical lefty loon so quick ban someone because you don't like what they say. I couldn't disagree more with Ed Schultz, Rachel Madcow, and a pile of other libs on CNN, NBC, and all the rest, but as the cliche goes, I would fight to the death to protect their right to say it.

So true. Faux News and the dominance of right-wing hate radio/TV is primarily to blame for the extreme political polarization in this country. They have not only been spreading outright lies and misinformation but they have been preaching that liberalism is a "disease" or a "mental illness." Before Reagan came on the scene with his anti-government philosophy and rhetoric, and before the rise of Faux News and the RWNJs on talk radio, even Republicans embraced some degree of liberalism. They remained true to their conservative roots but they didn't eschew liberalism as a "disease." There was actually some crossing of party lines to get things done. But lately the passions have been stirred so heatedly against liberals and liberalism by Faux News and people like Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Coulter, Ingraham, Savage, and the whole vanguard of right-wing talking heads, as if we libs are evil or diseased or mentally deficient, that we will never be able to bridge the chasm between us.

And judging from Zabeldedodo's statement, this is what happens to your brain after years of filling your head with hate and lies ~ every single one of his posts show him to be the misinformed, radical these people have become.

Wally - you can successfully argue that Limbaugh's statements are the most outrageous and the furthest from the truth, and probably the most obnoxious as well, but OTOH you can fact check some of the others and see the bias. Look up Schultz on Factcheck.org and you will see he has some "half truths" and "mostly false" statements, so calling one the truth and the other lies is probably not in itself factual. If you agree with someone's ideology it is much harder to detect the bias. I watch Schultz's TV show a couple of times a week and like some of his investigative work, but I also see a lot of bias, taking quotes out of context, occasional misstatements etc.

The AFN bases their programing on the popularity of shows in the US and becasue it's government they can't favor one political viewpoint over the other. Personally, I think it would useful for them to also include the audio from some of the more legitimate TV pundits - David Gregory, Fareed Zakaria and Chris Wallace to name a few.

Good point, wally. I get sick and tired of hearing people say that MSNBC is just the opposite end of the spectrum of Faux News, and therefore equally untruthful. I often hear "independents" say that both sides are liars and they like to think that only they in the middle are the ones with a handle on the truth. But that's not necessarily so. Admittedly MSNBC has a liberal bias (at least the portions of it in which the hosts are expressing their own liberal views), but that doesn't mean that they are spreading lies and misinformation with the same reckless abandon as Faux News and the right-wing pundits. Most of the time they are having to counter the latest round of lies regurgitated from Fox or Limbaugh or Beck, and all the other RWNJ talking heads, just so that people can determine the truth for themselves.

Plato, I haven't checked out factcheck.org lately but I'm willing to bet that whatever lies or half-truths Shultz or Maddow or any other MSNBC host have been caught in pale in comparison to the egregious lies that any of the admittedly conservative hosts on Faux News commit. To anyone with an ounce of objectivity their lies are as obvious as Donald Trump's bad hair.

And I find it interesting that you lump Chris Wallace and David Gregory as being in the "fair and balanced" category. Who are you kidding? I don't get my 'facts' from overpaid tv pundits and anybody that is a critical thinker doesn't consider any of the shows you mention as anything other than 'entertainment'.

Wally - didn't say "fair and balanced" I said they were legit, IMO. At any rate they would be an intellectual upgrade from the others. Agree pundits are not a good source for facts, however tough hardball interviewers can push the point with guests such as members of congress, presidential aids, corporate SEOs and union heads to get info and their positions on the record.

May 31, 2014 at 4:53 p.m.

Rickaroo and you other libs are ignorant. I've never heard Limbuagh spew hate. I've read distortions of what he said. I also listen to many lib commentators, hosts and whatever on many, many stations and they often foam at the mouth. Limbuagh, Marc Levine, and Savage often, often attack the GOP and have scathing criticism of them. You libs just regurgitate talking points. So predictable. If you listened to them you would know they have no problem criticizing the GOP. They view themselves as conservatives first, not as GOP.

Zableed, I never said that Limbaugh and the other right-wing commentators don't criticize the GOP. As far as I'm concerned it's totally irrelevant whether they do or not. I have seen you comment before that the mainstream GOP is too "liberal" and it really boggles my mind how anybody can be so out of touch as you, to think that there is anything whatsoever liberal about the GOP! It is so radically conservative, with or without the influence of the Tea Party, it's scary. Name one policy or proposal brought before Congress by Republicans since Obama has been in office that could even remotely be considered liberal.

And btw...these radio/tv talking heads that you give high praise for standing their ground for staunch conservatism, they're so off-the-charts conservative, they're practically insane. If the conservative world you and they envision should ever come to be, I would gladly leave this hell-hole of a country and take up residence anywhere but here. We are already dangerously close to being the banana republic and dystopian society that your nation of "individual freedom" would entail. It is not too much liberalism/socialism that is the problem with America, it's that there is not nearly enough of it.

May 31, 2014 at 7:03 p.m.

"radically conservative" are you kidding me? Are you talking about the Boehner led House, and RNC? "out of love" that was said by that GOP "conservative" Jeb Bush, who may just be the nominee in '16.

The Tea Party is conservative, the GOP can't stand them. The GOP are Dem wannabes. They're trying to out pander the Dems for illegal alien future votes. I can barely think of anything of any worth, period that the GOP controlled house has come up with at all.

You don't get it, the GOP will do nothing to repeal BO care in any way, and, like I said, they want the same thing, apparently, regarding illegal aliens. How is that "radically conservative"?

The GOP is not liberal or conservative, it's rudderless. They have no identity.

Both parties have worked very hard to trash the Tea Party. They both want to hold on to power no matter what.

Watch who'll they'll nominate. It won't be those "radical conservatives" Rand Paul or Ted Cruz, but it will be big useless country club Republican like Jeb Bush, who just will imitate he Dems. After all, he wants the press to like him.

May 31, 2014 at 7:26 p.m.

If the GOP does nothing to oppose BO care, and they want to pander to illegal aliens, then they're in no way radical conservatives.

They do nothing but talk. They speak harshly about BO picking and choosing what part of the law to enforce, but do nothing. They just want to get along in the long run. It's all kabuki.

May 31, 2014 at 7:34 p.m.

Zableed, if the GOP really wanted the same thing as Democrats regarding immigration reform we would have had an immigration reform bill already! At the very least the Dream Act would have passed. The GOP is only acting like they care about it but when push comes to shove they will not do anything whatsoever that involves actually agreeing with and voting with Democrats and Obama. They would rather have their fingernails plucked out with pliers than admit that they are on the same page with Obama about anything.

As for the GOP doing "nothing to repeal BO care in any way," they have tried almost 50 times (!) to repeal it but the votes aren't there. Is it too lame for your liking for them to simply vote against it? Would you prefer instead that they storm the Oval Office with loaded weapons and demand that Obama rescind it? Then would the GOP be exemplifying the brand of conservatism that you like? I think I already know the answer to that question.

Al Gore’s global-warming rhetoric is put on ice By Andrea Peyser February 17, 2014 | 12:09am

The “entire North Polar ice cap will be gone in five years,’’ Gore, now 65, told a German TV audience in 2008. Wrong!

Last month near the South Pole, a Russian ship carrying scientists and tourists traveled to the bottom of the Earth so passengers might document global warming and shrinking ice caps. But the ship got stuck on ice that was thicker than at any time since records started being kept in 1978. The warming fans were airlifted to safety by helicopter, leaving behind confused penguins!

Oh, ha, ha, ha! Someone help me hold my stomach. This belt of laughing is much too strong. Oh, wow, this is really rich. Oh, ha, ha, ha!

Yeah, choose Al Gore (and the like of his ilk) instead of Jesus Christ, who seems to know, for millions of years, how to control His planet earth.
