Barely into the 2014-15 basketball season, Cleveland State opened TCCAA play Friday night with a sweep of visiting Dyersburg State, 77-63 in the women's game and 81-73 in the men's.
Jamesha Mosley scored 27 points and Brandi Whitted had 10 points and four assists for the Lady Cougars (3-0 overall), while Jlynn Majors made four steals. For the Cougars (2-1), who won despite missing 18 of their 44 free throws, Orlando Moore had 23 points and 11 rebounds, Rico Overall had 22 points and five assists, Q.D. Cox scored 21 points and Alex Watkins grabbed 10 rebounds.
At Athens, Tenn., with five players scoring 12 or more points, Tennessee Wesleyan's men downed Dillard 94-70. The Louisiana team led at halftime, but the Bulldogs (2-0) outscored the visitors 52-25 after that.
Leland Robinson and Stephen Kite Jr. scored 17 points apiece for TWC, Kite adding four steals, while Hayden Mosley tallied 14 points and Devante Jenkins had 13 points and nine reobunds. D'Monta Smith added eight rebounds. JaCarra Crockett had 32 points and eight rebounds for Dillard.
At McKenzie, Tenn., Tennessee Temple freshman B.J. Brown made four 3s and scored 21 points while junior transfers Bryan Jones and Cameron High added 18 and 15 points, but the Crusaders lost 102-85 at Bethel University. High grabbed eight rebounds and Jones had four steals. Caleb Hardy and Gary Pollard scored 22 and 18 points for Bethel.
