Commission scolded on abortion vote

I am writing to express my total astonishment and disbelief in the recent actions of the County Commission.

Although they are elected to handle the business of the county, i.e., infrastructure, schools, safety and roadways, they instead take as their first major action a vote on the reproductive rights of women -- a vote to remove that right from women and give it to the state.

Although I am beyond the age of reproduction, I am not beyond the age of reason and common sense.

As a woman, I applaud the courage of Greg Beck and Warren Mackey who voted "no" on the madness of this resolution. And as a woman I am equally appalled and in disbelief that Sabrina Smedley would collude with men in an action detrimental to women.

And to think this is the beginning of their four-year term in office. God help us!

Paper redesign hurts readability

Looking at Sunday's "new" newspaper, I am reminded of the early days of PC-based word processing: You are using way too many fonts on a single page.

Just because you have the capability doesn't mean that you have to go nuts with the fonts. Tone it down.

Readability is the key.

Reader praises newspaper update

Congratulations on the new look of your newspaper. I really like it -- and I'm hard to please.

Good job!

Bring velodrome to city for cyclists

With all the activity involving bicycles in greater Chattanooga, plus having world-class racing bike manufacturers in the area, it seems to me that a velodrome, a bicycle racing track, would be a natural.

If any of you bike enthusiasts are interested, just pull up "velodrome" on Google and you will have all the information you need. It would be just one more attraction for our city.

Ride on!

Library director should hit the road

In regard to David Cook's commentary on Corinne Hill, I agree with one statement -- she should definitely do more traveling.

That would keep her away from our library and the destruction of the book collection.

Has Cook even been to the downtown library lately? If so, he'd see all the empty spaces, empty shelves, empty desks.

In short, all the emptiness where books, reference works, and valued librarians used to be.

As for poor little Corinne being the subject of a witch hunt, sometimes when you hunt for a witch you find what you're looking for.
