A man walking north on the train tracks near the Five Springs Road crossing near Dalton, Ga., was struck by a train Wednesday night and killed.

Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood identified the victim as Jonathan Christian Foxx, 30, who had a Murray County address.

Chitwood said the conductor of the northbound train blew a whistle, but Foxx did not get out of the way and was hit.

The accident happened around 7:15 p.m. Foxx was pronounced dead on the scene.

"It was a tragic accident," Chitwood said, "and that is about all we know right now, but the investigation is ongoing."

According to the Federal Railroad Administration, the death marks the second fatality caused by a train in Whitfield County this calendar year, and the sixth recorded accident/incident.
