Schools are open; watch for children

Thanks to my late uncle, H.H. Rogers, who originally mailed "A Driver's Prayer" to your paper:

"Dear Lord, before I take my place today behind the wheel,

Please let me come with humble heart before thy throne to kneel

And pray, that I am fit to drive each busy thoroughfare,

And that I keep a watchful eye lest some small child be there.

And keep me thinking constantly about the Golden Rule

When driving past the playground zones or by some busy school.

Then when I stop to give someone his right to cross the street,

Let me, my brother's keeper, be and spare a life that's sweet.

Please make me feel this car I drive you gave me to enjoy,

And that its purpose is to serve mankind, but not to destroy.

Vote Democrat to limit CEO deduction

Is it just me or does everything seem to be going up except my paycheck?

I don't expect my congressional representative to fight for my pay in Washington, but what I pay out? Now that's another story.

It is reported that upwards of $100 million was saved last year by a clause in the Affordable Care Act limiting the maximum amount of taxable income a health care CEO can deduct of the first $500,000.

Now I'm not advocating that all CEOs' pay be cut to $500,000. Heavens to Betsy! That would scarcely put caviar and Chardonnay on the table.

But wouldn't it be nice if we sent a person to Congress who would support a bill to limit all CEOs' income tax deduction to the first $500,000, saving us taxpayers $50 billion over the next 10 years?

You would think the conservative candidate would be the one who would be willing to fight to conserve my money, right?

Wrong!

If you want a tax break that won't add to the national debt, vote Democrat.

Look to God, Bible to eradicate enemy

In 2 Chronicles 20:1-30, we could learn a valuable lesson.

A report came to the king of Judah: "A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea."

The king was afraid, but he turned his attention to seek God and proclaimed a fast of repentance. He and the people cried out to God and were certain God would hear their prayers and deliver them.

Our nation needs to go before God and seek his forgiveness for pushing him out of our land, for allowing our pre-born children to be aborted and for our immorality.

The biblical story has an incredible ending. When the people began singing and praising, God set ambushes against the enemy, and they were routed.

We are seeing an enemy, intent on destroying civilization in the world as we know it and replacing it with things that are unthinkable. We have never seen such an evil advance so rapidly.

However, there is a solution, and it is given to us in a little-known story in the Bible.
