David Noll Jr. of Dalton and Cameron Hooper of Atlanta shot a 68 and qualified Monday at Pine Tree Country Club in Kennsaw, Ga., for the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship next May at San Francisco. Noll and Hooper were second in the 60-team qualifier, trailing only Atlanta's Greg Kennedy and Smyrna's Reece Whitley and their 67. Former Baylor School standout Carlton Forrester of Atlanta and his partner shot a 69 but lost in a playoff for the final qualifying spot and two alternate slots.

• Lynda Wimberly of Brentwood took a four-shot lead with a first-round 74 Monday in the first round of the 36th annual Tennessee Women's Senior Amateur golf tournament, and Niota's Margot Oliver is in a three-way tie for second at 78. Nine-time champion Maggie Scott of Charleston shares fifth place at 79 after a 37 in her second nine in the event at Old Hickory Country Club, and 2012 champ Jean Kraft from Crossville is tied for seventh at 80. Fairfield Glade's Chris Kencitzski shot 81, and Cleveland's Linda Mullins shot 82. Another Cleveland resident, Lisa Daubner, also is in the top 20 of the 69-player field after an 86.

Auto Racing

• Ricky Millard Jr. of Rossville entered two classes at the Brained Optimist Drag Strip this past Saturday and won both. The son of a former strip champion won the 5.70-second class with a 5.71 run in his 1969 Camaro SS, and he won the 6.00 class with a 6.00 run in his 1963 Corvette Sting Ray. Marvin Crutcher in a 1927 Model T roadster was the 5.70 runner-up, and Mark Dempsey in a 1979 Camaro was second in 6.00. There were more than 100 cars in eight classes, and other top finishers were Brian Farrar with a 4.71-second burst in a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, Ray Bayless first in a 1967 Chevrolet with Gary Blankenship second in the 5.30 class, Mark Armstrong first in a 1986 Chevy S10 with Grady Robinson second in the 7.00 class, Dennis Pendergrass first in a 1992 Eagle in 255, Jason O'Daniel first in a 1987 Mustang with Tony Morgan second in 275 Street and Jack Greene first in a 1970 Nova with Michael Malone second in 275 Outlaw.

• Ringgold resident Jamie Perry won the Steelhead Late Model race and Bryan Pritchard of Harrison won the Crate Late Model feature Saturday night at Boyd's Speedway, and other winners were Booger Brooks in A-Hobby, Jeff Irvin in B-Hobby and Koty Campbell in Pony/FWD. Pritchard actually finished second but moved up when Gathan Burns would not allow an inspection, and that left Kenny Kizzar, Craig Burrows, Jerry Coffman and track owner David Duplissey second through fifth. Ethan Hunter won a fierce contest with Mike Tinker for second in the Steelhead race, and T.J. Alford was fourth with points leader Tod Hernandez fifth. Laura Bates earned her second Powder Puff victory of the season.

Volleyball

• Covenant College freshman Christy Barton was the USA South women's soccer rookie of the week for her part in two wins for the Lady Scots this past weekend. Her first collegiate goal was the game-winner in a 2-0 defeat of Greensboro.

Baseball

• The Chattanooga Cyclones K fall baseball team went 3-1 at the Southern Wood Bat Kennesaw State University Invitational tournament this past weekend and is 13-2 for the season. Jackson Bell was the winning pitcher with a save from Logan Haga in the Cyclones' 5-3 win over Nelson Baseball School Black, and Noah Hill had an RBI triple and scored a run while Cade Evans scored twice. Nic Gaddis was the winning pitcher with relief from Hill in an 8-2 defeat of OTC in which Evans had two hits, two stolen bases, three RBIs and three runs and Corey Edgemon had two hits, two runs and one RBI. The Cyclones K beat the Cyclones H team with Alex Barbee getting the pitching win and Evans collecting four hits, two RBIs and two runs; Hill adding three hits, three RBIs and four runs; and Hunter Mercer contributing two hits, two RBIs and three runs. Evans and Gaddis each had two hits and two runs and Hunter Oliver hit a two-run triple in a 10-8 loss to Nelson Baseball School White.
