One year after holding off Woodward Academy by using a physical ground game, McCallie went to the air to thoroughly dominate the War Eagles in a 41-21 win Friday night at Finley Stadium.
Led by senior quarterback Jay St-Hilaire, who completed 17 of 32 attempts for 240 yards and a touchdown, the Blue Tornado racked up 283 passing yards to improve to 2-0.
Ja'Von McMahan had a touchdown among his four catches and rushed for 77 yards on 19 carries, including a score.
McCallie, which debuted at No. 1 in TSSAA Division II-AAA in this week's Associated Press state rankings, outgained Woodward 421-309 in total yards, limiting the Georgia power to just 64 on the ground. The War Eagles were also held without a third-down conversion (0-for-10), and Blue Tornado defensive back De'Shun Tipton intercepted two passes.
"We had a lot of improvement, so I was very pleased," McCallie coach Ralph Potter said of the progress from last week's season-opening win at Chattanooga Christian. "I felt like we had a great first half defensively and a great second half offensively, and there was a lot we can learn from this.
"That was a very good team we played with a lot of good players, so for us to do that and win by 20 over them, that's a really big win."
Notre Dame 52, Signal Mountain 30: The Fighting Irish leaned on tailback EJ Carter and he delivered, rushing 17 times for 359 yards and four scores. Carter gained 192 of that total in the deciding first half.
"I believe he just introduced himself to the area," Notre Dame coach Charles Fant said.
Mason Simms added an interception return for a score for the Irish.
Eagles star receiver Blake Wolfard left the game with an injury early in the first quarter, but in his absence Christian Thompson caught two touchdown passes from Cash Keene, while Garrett Wilson ran for 88 yards and a score.

Soddy-Daisy 20, Ooltewah 13: In a back-and-forth battle, the Trojans pulled out the nonregion win thanks to Gage Welch's second touchdown of the third quarter. Welch, who earlier in the second half had a 15-yard reception for a score, ran one in from 3 yards to answer an Ooltewah touchdown and put Soddy-Daisy ahead to stay.
The teams entered the second half tied at 7, then traded touchdown as C.J. Carter had a 47-yard run to the end zone between Welch's two scores. Carter also had a first-half 1-yard touchdown, as did Soddy-Daisy's Tucker Ross, who finished with 101 passing yards to go with Welch's 64 rushing.
The Trojans outgained the Owls 255-231 in total yards, rushing for 154 and throwing for 101, while Ooltewah gained 170 of its yardage total on the ground.
South Pittsburg 28, Franklin County 14: Senior quarterback Kamden Wellington threw for 193 yards and ran for 77 and two touchdowns to help the Pirates, ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, to the road win over a 5A opponent. Racash Kelly caught six passes for 58 yards, and the Pirates limited Franklin County to just 26 rushing yards.
Marion County 10, Dade County 6: The Warriors came out on top in the defensive struggle as Luke Tipton's 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter proved to be the difference. Brody Leonard ran 19 times for 62 yards for Marion and Tilton Pickett threw for 82.
Bryson Shrader threw for 93 yards for the Wolverines and Landon Williams ran for 80 for the Georgia program.
Meigs County 35, Hixson 16: Chase Barnard threw for 236 yards in a losing effort, with 135 of that total going to Tariq Reese. LaWuan Hughley totaled 116 yards for the Wildcats (0-2), while Izaiah Williams led the defense with eight solo tackles and three assists.
Whitwell 15, Greenback 12: Bennett McDougal ran for 103 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown in the first quarter to put the Tigers in front. He later added a 32-yard scoring reception in the second quarter, and Whitwell (2-0) held off a late rally by the Cherokees (0-2) for the nonregion win.
Chattanooga Christian 54, Central 6: Dre Martin had two touchdowns for the Chargers (2-0), scoring on a 97-yard kickoff return and a 35-yard reception.
Goodpasture 21, Silverdale Baptist Academy 20 (OT): Both teams scored once in the first half and once in the second half before the Cougars secured the overtime win on Henry Lowe's extra point.
Caleb Greco ran for 51 yards and two touchdowns for the Seahawks, Chase Walker threw for 160 yards and a score, and Carter Brown made 14 tackles to lead the defense.
