Chattanooga pet adoption event celebrates late radio personality Kelly McCoy

Cumulus Media Chattanooga will hold the second annual "Rock On Kelly's Adopt-a-Thon" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20 at the Humane Educational Society, 4155 Randolph Road, to celebrate the late Kelly McCoy's passion for pets.

McCoy passed away in March 2022. She was known for her love of animals and was a popular longtime on-air personality at at KZ-106.

Through Kelly's Pet Project, hundreds of pets have found homes through a partnership with the Humane Educational Society.

The nonprofit group will offer free adoptions during the event, which will also include live music, vendors, a pet portrait photo booth and food trucks. The goal for the day is find 30 forever families for the animals there.

Local band No Big Deal will perform classic rock hits during a live remote hosted by the KZ-106 team.

McCoy's radio career spanned more than 35 years and included stops at WZRA, WGOW-AM, WFXS and, finally, KZ-106 where she was the area's No. 1 midday radio host for two decades.

"Kelly set the standard for music radio hosts in Chattanooga, and her love of animals was contagious," Scott Chase, Cumulus Chattanooga operations manager, said in a news release. "We are honored to carry on her mission to support the Humane Educational Society, pets and their forever families."

Cumulus Media Chattanooga operates KZ-106, New Country 107.9, Talk Radio 102.3. and NewsRadio 1150.
