Billy Amick and Kavares Tears hit solo home runs while Cannon Peebles and Robin Villeneuve combined for five RBIs as Tennessee turned back High Point 7-4 Tuesday inside a blustery Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The No. 8 Volunteers improved to 8-1 and have collected at least one homer in all nine games.
"A home run was the last thing that I would have thought would happen today for either team, honestly," Tears said afterward in a news conference.
Tears launched his low-flying home run to right field in the third inning to extend Tennessee's lead to 3-0, while Amick's blast down the left-field line in the eighth made it 6-3. Tears, who scored three times for the first time in his college career, and Amick lead the Vols in homers with four apiece.
Villeneuve continued his torrid start with a two-run single to left in the first inning and an RBI double down the left-field line in the sixth. Peebles produced an RBI single to right in the sixth and an RBI double to right in the eighth.
The Vols were coming off a three-game sweep of Albany by the combined score of 41-11, including a 33-6 difference in the last two games, but they got a challenge Tuesday far more similar to last Tuesday's 3-2 topping of UNC Asheville.
"We've been in a few of these now," Tennessee coach Tony Vitello said, "so it's been fortunate."
Tennessee will host Bowling Green for a three-game series this weekend, with Friday evening's opener set for 6:30.
