Player of the Year
Summer Lanter
Soddy-Daisy
Junior Forward
Perhaps the most surprising thing about Lanter's 2011 season is that she played the early portion of it on one leg after an injury during club season. The knee injury eventually got better, and with that returned the speed and leg power that made her such a threat in seasons past. After the slow start, Lanter finished with 32 goals and five assists and helped the Lady Trojans to the Class AAA state semifinals, where they were humbled by eventual state champion Franklin, who was ranked No. 2 in the final fall ESPN poll.
Coach of the Year
Jimmy Weekley
Baylor
16th Season
Weekley's Lady Red Raiders claimed their second consecutive Division II-AA state championship this past fall, defeating St. Agnes for the second straight season in the final. Under the 16th-year coach's direction, Baylor finished with a 19-1 record and a No. 3 national ranking in the final fall ESPN poll. Six of his eight seniors signed NCAA Division I scholarships and finished 53-2-3 over their final three seasons.
"We talked about repeating one or two times, but mainly we focused on the mentality of competing on a daily basis regardless of who the competition was," he said. "I couldn't have asked for more out of the girls, not just in the season but in terms of how this senior class led throughout."
