ROME, Ga. - Authorities are trying to determine what caused a fire that led to a woman's death in northwest Georgia.
The Rome News-Tribune reports that firefighters were called to a house fire in the Silver Creek area near Rome around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Fire was already coming through the front windows and a door when the first fire crews arrived. Firefighters entered the home and found 77-year-old Mary Blackburn on a bed in the living room.
Floyd County Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor said Blackburn died from toxic fumes from the fire.
