Pedestrian struck, killed on U.S. 27 near Sale Creek

A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on U.S. 27 around 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The man, who has not been identified, was dead when deputies arrived on the scene.

Investigators aren't sure why the man was in the road, sheriff's spokesman Matt Lea said.

Authorities shut down U.S. 27 northbound from about 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Traffic was temporarily diverted traffic to Coulterville Road until U.S. 27 reopened.

Update: Authorities have identified the victim.
